March 10 - Family & Medical Leave - Reproductive Freedom Rally

Abby Whalen holds her two-month-old daughter in the gallery as she waits for the House to take up HF11, a bill that would delay implementation of the Minnesota’s Paid Family and Medical Leave Act.

HF11 was laid on the table before debate or a vote was taken by members of the House. Sponsors of the bill explained that the program would be a financial strain for businesses that are dealing with increasing costs. They also added that the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) is still making rules, making it difficult for employers that are responsible for implementing the Minnesota Paid Family and Medical Leave Act. A one year delay is necessary because of doubts that the program could start on time leading to confusion for employers. DEED has stated it is ready for the start of the program in 2026.

Opponents to a one year delay in the Minnesota Paid Family and Medical Leave Act which has a start date in 2026 rallied outside the House Chamber. The bill (HF11) which was scheduled to be heard by the House was tabled before any debate or vote by House members.

Supporters brought their signs in English and Spanish to a rally for Reproductive Freedom Lobby Day rally in the rotunda.
